In its 30th year of celebrating all that is Tasmanian food and wine, the Taste of Tasmania is one reason to visit Hobart over the New Year period.
We attended the Taste on the first day of opening, 28 December 2018, which coincided with Wild Oats IX and the other maxi yachts crossing the finishing line for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. One of the original reasons we came to Hobart at this time.
We experienced a magical mystery tour of food, wine, cider, ice-cream and all manner of foods in between. We experienced entertainment from local dance groups, musicians as well as street performers and the decorations inviting you to the venue were magical.
Encouraging a relaxing, hang out kind of atmosphere, meant that we chilled out, enjoyed the entertainment, did a bit of people watching, and of course sampled some of the food, wine, cider and soft drink on offer. We enjoyed the atmosphere so much, we found it to be our go to hang out location on New Year’s Eve while we waited for the fireworks, While much of it was closed for a private New Year Function, there was still a section opened, with entertainment for the adults and kids to enjoy.
Knowing that the experience might only be a once in a lifetime event for us, we returned for a night time dinner experience on its last night, as it only runs for 5 nights. We were not disappointed at all, with some delicious food offerings and ice-creams for the kids, and of course some awesome bands, we went home with full tummies and a promise that we will have to return one day.
If you are going to be in Tasmania over the new year period, there is lots to do, and many of the towns have events. While you cannot be everywhere, we are super happy that we chose to be in Hobart for this great event.
